Science

Primary Science provides the basis for our general knowledge about how the world around us works, and at Tenterden Junior School the emphasis is very much on hands-on exploration whenever possible. The children are encouraged to think scientifically right from the start in Year 3, all the way up to Year 6 and beyond. This means knowing how set up an investigation, how to choose and use the equipment needed, and how to make sure the investigation is a fair test. Messiness and mistakes are positively encouraged! This links in with our school ethos of Growth Mindset – not only to help build resilience, but also to provide further ideas for investigation.

We have also begun a partnership with Homewood School to allow the children access to equipment, resources and knowledge that they might not otherwise have, and this has included the borrowing of skeletons, visits to farms and ponds, and more in-depth investigations of electricity!

Children learn best when they are actively engaged and having fun, and we believe our Science curriculum offers the best opportunities for this to happen.
