Tenterden Infant School is committed to the continuous raising of achievement of all our pupils. Regular attendance is vital if our pupils are to be successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them.
One of our basic principles is to celebrate success. Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils and we use a variety of weekly, termly and annual awards to promote good attendance and punctuality.
The Governors, Executive Headteacher and Staff in partnership with parents have a duty to promote full attendance at our school.
If your child is ill and unable to attend please telephone the school on the first morning of absence to let us know about the illness.
Pupils are expected to arrive by 8.55am and all pupils who arrive late need to come to the school office with a parent, where the reason for lateness will be recorded. The class register will close at 09.10 am and 1.15 pm at the Infant school. Pupils arriving after the register has closed will be marked as late after registration and this will count as an unauthorised absence.
Leave of Absence/Holiday
Time off school for family holidays is not a right. Schools have very limited discretion to allow up to 10 days absence in a school year for holiday leave in special circumstances such as:
- For Service personnel and other employees who are prevented from taking holidays outside term-time if the holiday will have minimal disruption to the pupil’s education;
- When a family needs to spend time together to support each other during or after a crisis.
Agreement to each request is at the discretion of the Executive Headteacher, acting on behalf of the Governing Body (Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006). Each case will be judged on its merits in line with the criteria outlined above.
