Modern Foreign Languages

We aim, through fortnightly sessions of French or Spanish for each class, to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching, largely based on the Tout le Mode scheme of work and lesson style, enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.

Importance is placed on children developing the confidence to practise their conversation skills orally for example, through games, drama and role play activities. Children then apply their knowledge through written work. Skills are taught, practised, embedded and repeated.

In the Lower School (Y3/4), the children focus on Spanish. In the Upper School (Y5/6), the children focus on French.
